Abstract

The translation of antonyms from English into Uzbek presents unique challenges that stem from the fundamental differences between these two languages. English, belonging to the Indo-European family, and Uzbek, a Turkic language, exhibit distinct morphological, semantic, and cultural patterns that complicate the direct transfer of oppositional meanings. This study examines the theoretical foundations of antonymy, analyzes specific translation problems encountered when rendering English antonyms into Uzbek, and proposes strategic approaches to overcome these linguistic barriers. Through systematic analysis of various antonym types and their translation challenges, this research contributes to the broader understanding of cross-linguistic semantic relationships and provides practical insights for translators working with this language pair.
