Abstract
Exposition is a foundational narrative element in literary texts that introduces essential background
information about characters, settings, and events. This article explores the structural and semantic
roles exposition plays in constructing meaning within a narrative. Through an examination of
various literary examples, we analyze how exposition operates not only as a narrative tool but also
as a semantic mechanism that shapes readers’ interpretations and expectations
