Abstract

This article explores the principles and approaches for developing independent
study skills in the field of English literature and creative writing among university
students. Independent learning is crucial for nurturing critical thinking, interpretive
abilities, and creativity, particularly in literature-related disciplines. The paper
analyzes pedagogical frameworks, learner autonomy, formative and summative
assessment models, and the role of digital tools in supporting self-directed learning.
Through a synthesis of scholarly literature, the study highlights best practices and
proposes practical recommendations for educators seeking to promote independence
in learners engaged in reading, analyzing, and producing literary texts
