THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING IN IMPROVING ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILLS

Abstract

The development of communicative competence has become one of the primary goals of modern English language education. Traditional methods of language teaching often focused on grammar rules and vocabulary memorization, while contemporary approaches emphasize the practical use of language in real-life situations. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is recognized as one of the most effective methods for improving students' speaking abilities and overall language proficiency. This article examines the principles of Communicative Language Teaching, its advantages, challenges, and its impact on learners' speaking skills. The study highlights how communicative activities encourage students to participate actively in classroom interactions, develop confidence, and improve fluency in English. The findings suggest that the implementation of communicative approaches contributes significantly to successful language acquisition and prepares learners for effective communication in academic and professional environments.
